The Tropic of Capricorn runs straight through this stretch of coast, and Rockhampton marks the spot with giant bull statues at every entrance. Underground, Capricorn Caves hides limestone chambers used for actual concerts, and at the summer solstice, sunlight lines up perfectly through an opening in the rock. Offshore, Great Keppel Island keeps its beaches close to empty even in peak season. Yeppoon anchors the coast itself, relaxed and unhurried, exactly the base this region asks for.
