Tasmania

North West

One of the most photographed lakes in the country, with a volcanic plug down the road

This corner of Tasmania rewards a slow drive, farmland rolling toward Cradle Mountain on one side and rugged coastline holding towns like Stanley on the other. Dove Lake mirrors Cradle Mountain on a still morning, one of the most photographed views in the state. Stanley sits beneath The Nut, a volcanic plug rising straight out of the town, climbable by chairlift or a walking track. Some views ask for nothing more than a calm morning and a bit of patience.
