West Coast

This is Tasmania at its most remote, rainforest and rivers giving way to Queenstown's bare, scarred hills within the same short drive. The Gordon River cruises through World Heritage wilderness, water so still and tannin-dark it mirrors the forest on a calm day. The West Coast Wilderness Railway threads the same rainforest by heritage steam train, one of the few lines of its kind left in the country. Strahan anchors the coast with genuine harbourside heritage, boats and old buildings standing much as they always have.
