Small towns strung along the coast, one relaxed drive apart
The road from Rockhampton to Yeppoon and on to Emu Park makes an easy loop of the whole coast in half a day. Emu Park keeps the region's strangest landmark, the Singing Ship, a sculptural memorial that genuinely hums with the wind off the water. From Yeppoon, boats run out through the Keppel Bay Islands, Great Keppel the largest but far from the only one worth a look. Between the towns, small creeks and picnic spots make for an easy stop whenever the mood takes you.
