Dry season visitors never see Koolpin Falls flowing like this. We follow the creek upstream.
Koolpin campsite. Many camps have sandy beaches like this. Almost all have pools where we can swim.
One of our many creek crossings. This one was wadable, so no swimming was required.
One of our many pack floats. We always float our packs where the water is slowest.
Kakadu campsite. The group fly in the background provides shelter from rain at mealtimes.
Bower bird bower. We always make time to stop and notice the small things.
Food drop helicopter. As well as food, it can bring in spare gear for the walking group.
Natural spa, a great way to relax. We enjoy several of these along the way.
Amphitheatre Falls, 7 km upstream from Twin Falls. We walk both ways from here.

Kakadu Super Circle Wet Season Expedition

Darwin, Northern Territory

Venture deep into World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park on a 3 to 4 week wet season bushwalking expedition through a landscape transformed by water. This is the only tour that takes you to Jim Jim Falls and/or Twin Falls during the wet season. Other tours can fly over the falls, but we walk in to experience their awesome power close up. This is a genuine wilderness journey. Apart from the helicopter pilot delivering food, you are unlikely to see anyone other than your walking companions. The three-week version has one helicopter food drop; the four-week version has two. Walk beside rivers at their wet season best, discover waterfall after waterfall, visit ancient Aboriginal rock art sites and swim in clear waterholes. The adventure ends with a Yellow Waters cruise and a night in accommodation. You need to be able to swim 100 metres unaided, as we will float our packs across a number of creeks. You must also be prepared to wait if flooding makes a creek unsafe to cross. Every expedition is different, offering a rare opportunity to experience Kakadu's wet season from the ground, far from roads and vehicles.
