Coorong District Council

A hundred-kilometre lagoon separated from the ocean by nothing but sand

Some landscapes are held together by the thinnest possible margin. The Coorong stretches for more than a hundred kilometres, held apart from the ocean by nothing but the dunes of the Younghusband Peninsula. This is Ngarrindjeri Country, its waters and wetlands central to the world's oldest continuing culture long before any park boundary was drawn. This landscape has always belonged to the water as much as the land.
