Dickson Reserve

Discover Dickson Reserve

Tailem Bend, South Australia

Dickson Reserve is a beautiful and peaceful picnic spot by the banks of the Murray River in Tailem Bend, just below the Rhino Park. It is by the ferry landing that takes you to Jervois. There are toilets, a bench, a barbecue and shelter, a brand new pontoon and a lot of space for you to pause and play. The fixed pontoon enables vessels of up to 22.5 metres in length (and 110 tonne in weight) to dock at Tailem Bend, and with eight houseboat moorings houseboat users can moor on public land, and access and explore Tailem Bend via the Murray River. Located at Dickson Reserve are the remains of the original ferry crossing built in 1924. State heritage listed, the landing was in operation until the mid 1960's and today the remains are the most intact example of this tyrpe. Dickson Reserve is also where the Lower Murray Canoe Trail commences and is an adventurous way to explore the Mighty Murray River and learn more about the Riverine Environment and History. For the adventurous, the River Bend Heritage walking Trail also passes by Dickson Reserve travelling to Wellington via either side of the river
