Description

The Heavenly Queen Temple is the largest Taoist temple in Australia and welcomes individuals from all backgrounds. The temple is situated by the Maribyrnong River in Footscray and was built in honour of the Goddess of the Sea, Mazu. The temple is situated on a site spanning approximately 40,000 square meters and is inspired by the Forbidden City in Beijing. Construction began in 2008, with various stages completed over the years. The temple complex showcases traditional Chinese architecture and designs. The temple is conveniently located just 7 kilometers northwest of Melbourne's CBD, making it easily accessible: You can access the temple by walking along the Maribyrnong River Trail, by train from Footscray Station, by bus by boarding routes 216, 219, and 402 or by car with ample parking on site. It's a 15-minute drive from Melbourne city. The temple is a non-profit organisation operating on donations and volunteers from the public.
