Description

Djandamandi Jagun - Garrima Jagun is a series of woven fish traps and circular weavings commissioned by Nyangbal artist Tania Marlowe and made in collaboration with local Elders, artists and community members. The works depict the colours of country, the diverse plant species, and the local environments of the Ballina Shire, as well as paying deep respect to the ancestors, Nyangbal Elders and the Aboriginal community. Made from a range of local native fibres, including Lomandra, Bangalow Palm inflorescence, Lawyer Cane, and Cabbage Tree Fibre, the weavings are dyed with a range of plant-based colours. The artworks of Djandamandi Jagun - Garrima Jagun welcome visitors arriving at the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport and the weavings highlight the importance of paying respect and recognising the significance of Aboriginal cultural heritage in the region.
