Description

Milparinka has a long history of supporting community arts with several artworks on display. Just on the east side of Evelyn Creek artists Geoff De Main and James Giddey created a cairn of sandstone blocks from original cottages. Across the Evelyn Creek is a lone horseman walking alongside his horse. This is a wire sculpture by artist Brian Campbell and represents Charles Sturt's expedition. Murals by Jodi Daley are outside the pastoral history shed and inside the Mining Heritage Centre and Pioneer Women’s room. Shane Bates's artwork is featured in the Malyangapa rooms and the archive centre. Along Loftus Street is a rammed earth wall and a writer’s desk and chair by Gritta Walker. On the opposite side of the road is Bonnie Quayle’s silhouette of five generations of strong Malyangapa women. In the Sturt-Kidman Centre Clark Barrett has painted a portrait, as well as a representation of the Kidman properties and Kidman near his cattle yards. Also in the Sturt Room is a five-metre-long diorama of Sturt’s expedition hand-carved by John Gerritsen. At the entrance to the Harry Blore Memorial Park is the tribute to the many children whose deaths were recorded in Milparinka carved by Ian Marr. Further along the pathway is the representation of the Indigenous emu of the dark sky, Kalthi, crafted by Harrie Fasher.
