Description

The Derby Schoolhouse Museum is a local history museum situated in the heritage school building, which was built in 1897. The Museum’s collection includes many photographs, documents and artefacts dating from the early days of European settlement in the region, with a focus on the mining era. Derby was originally established in the 1870s during Tasmania's mining boom, and flourished as a hub for tin mining and timber milling. The Museum is staffed by passionate volunteers with unrivalled knowledge of this history so you can learn more from them, or simply wander the museum at your leisure. No visit to Derby is complete without understanding the people and the stories of this beautiful Tasmanian town. Entry is by donation.
