Description

Temporary closure alert: The Green Cape Lightstation precinct, including the Green Cape Lightstation Keepers' Cottages, will be closed from 1 April – 31 October 2025. Carpark access will be available at Green Cape, with a walk down the boardwalk leading to the Green Cape lookout. The southernmost lighthouse in NSW, Green Cape Lighthouse also entered record books when it was built in 1883 as Australia's first concrete lighthouse tower. Standing proud at 29m, the whitewashed structure overlooks a rugged stretch of the wild and wonderful Sapphire Coast. It's the perfect perch for whale-watching over winter and spring (August through November) and also offers the chance to dig deep into the region's seafaring history – good and bad. Visit, and you'll learn that the lighthouse didn't always save ships: Ly-ee-Moon was mysteriously wrecked just offshore in 1886, and tombstones of those who perished dot the surrounding green hills. On guided heritage tours of the lighthouse (available on request) you can climb all the way to the top to enjoy panoramic views over the ominously named Disaster Bay.
