Journey to the centre of gold history in Yackandandah in this fully guided tour. Your guide Greg will excort you from where gold was first discovered in Yackandandah along commisionner's creek that still has alluvial gold in it today. From the comfort of a 4WD vehicle you will continue along this creek as Greg details stories from the 1800's. Finishing up at the Heritage listed protected site of the Gold mine, which was operated from 1867 to 1884. Guides into this world listed mine and show you the pick marks still on the dirt walls, and then the core holes from the black powder blasting. There is a full commentary on the history of the men who operated it, ending up in the middle of the mountain where the quartz reef is still visible. Then walk along the quartz reef and reveal some gold still there to be seen, this quartz reef being the source of the alluvial gold found in the creek.
