Description

St George’s Cathedral is the principal cathedral of the Anglican province of Western Australia and the metropolitical Diocese of Perth. The cathedral was built by convicts and is one of only a few cathedrals constructed entirely of handmade bricks. It was consecrated in 1888 and has stood in the heart of Cathedral Square as a landmark architectural gem for over 120 years. Designed in the Gothic revival tradition, the cathedral was built from uniquely West Australian materials, including jarrah roof trusses and arches, limestone from Fremantle and bricks manufactured in three different brickyards along the Swan River. It offers traditional Anglican worship, challenging preaching and a lovely Christian community for people of all ages in the heart of the city.
