Description

Escape to tranquil Hoffman Mill, where the South West’s ancient karri, marri and tuart forests meet the jarrah forests of the Darling Range. Relax in serene bush surroundings, spot native wildlife and, in spring, see the wildflowers that bloom around the site of the old timber milling town. Hoffman Mill is an easy one-hour-and-45-minute drive south of Perth via the South West Highway. Stop by Harvey Visitor Centre en route for maps and tips on where to see the best of the spring wildflowers. In its 1920s heyday, the small timber-milling town of Hoffman Mill was one of many dotted throughout the forest. Today, the general store, post office, community hall, school and workers’ homes are gone, but you can still find remnants of the settlement and mill amid the fig and peach trees by the river. Enjoy a picnic or barbecue under the canopy, explore the waymarked trails and look out for the forest’s feathered residents, including the golden whistler and splendid fairy wren. Take your pick from a range of secluded camping spots (November to Easter, no bookings required) and enjoy an extended stay. Camping fees apply.
