Macquarie Arms Hotel

99 George Street, Windsor, New South Wales, Australia, 2756 Arrow
The heritage-listed Macquarie Arms Hotel opened in 1815 in Windsor, which is on the banks of the beautiful Hawkesbury River. The inn was constructed by emancipist Richard Fitzgerald on orders from Governor Lachlan Macquarie. The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage says the historic pub ‘is of exceptional significance as the most sophisticated and most intact major commercial building dating to the pre-1820 colonial period of Australia's history’. The hotel is part of Thompson Square, the ‘best Georgian town square in mainland Australia’ according to the heritage listing.
