Description

Gouger Street is one of many main streets in the CBD in the centre of Adelaide, South Australia. It was named after Robert Gouger, the first Colonial Secretary of South Australia. Gouger Street is known for its diverse and high-end international restaurants and, cafés cuisines along Gouger Street, including Italian, French, Argentinian, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, and so much more. The southern entrance of the Adelaide Central Market can also be found on Gouger street. A Paifang, comprising an archway erected by the city council and two lions donated by the People's Republic of China, marks the southern entrance to Moonta Street Chinatown. Gouger Street is an easy walk from most Adelaide Hotels, offering Adelaide visitors a choice of flavours from around the world. There's always something open at a great price on Gouger Street. The buzz of Chinatown (on Moonta Street) and the adjoining Adelaide Central Market permeates Gouger Street, making the strip a colourful hive of activity with a distinct 'fresh food' flavour. Famous as Adelaide's original farmer's Market, over 140 years old, you can find a massive range of fresh fruit and vegetables, many straight from local farms and sent to the farmers' stalls in the Market.
