Tathra Wharf

The coastal town of Tathra remains inextricably linked to the sea – given its waterside perch on the Sapphire Coast, how could it not? Heritage-listed Tathra Wharf was built in the 1860s, but it remains an important part of the Sapphire Coast community and a hub for activities among gourmands and outdoor enthusiasts – and those who like to explore with their head below water. During the spring months, whales are a common sight on their annual migration to and from Antarctica (August to November). Prepare for some dazzling marine displays, sometimes right up close as humpback and southern right whales shelter in the calm waters of the bay. The wharf is home to locals' favourite coffee stop and gallery, The Wharf Local, as well as the Tathra Wharf Museum where you can uncover maritime history of the local region.
