Description

Sixty-two years after Governor-General Sir William McKell launched the Snowy Mountains Scheme in 1949, Governor-General Quentin Bryce travelled to Adaminaby to open the museum that showcases this monumental chapter in Australia's history. The Snowy Scheme Museum is a multi-dimensional insight into the impact on the nation of the construction of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme, highlighting the achievements of the engineers, the workers, the machinery and the role the project played in the development of the modern Australian nation. The Snowy Scheme is widely considered to be the greatest engineering project ever undertaken in Australia. The items on display include bulldozers, large and small, a snowplough, a tunnel train and other vehicles used on the project. The museum also includes items from the SMA laboratory, a Rock Bolt display, the original Snowy Scheme control panel, construction displays, memorabilia and photographic display
