Description

Schaeffer House, which houses a Museum and Research Room, is the headquarters of the Clarence River Historical Society. The homestead was built by the son of a pioneer German family, Grafton's first architect, Mr F.W.C. Schaeffer, between 1901 and 1903. The society was formed in 1931 and is the oldest country historical society in New South Wales. Schaeffer House displays beautiful china, glassware and furniture presented to the society over the years. Take note of the beautiful painting of Dalmorton hanging in the main dining room. The quality of the exhibits and the magnificent building ensure a most satisfying experience. A great deal of historic information on the Clarence and its people can be found at the Clarence River Historical Society.
