Description

This memorial is a 73-metre column topped with an 11-metre eagle and sphere. Located in front of Defence Headquarters Russell, it was paid for with donations from the Australian public in thanks for American involvement in the Pacific region during World War II. Russell is at one corner of the National Triangle central to the Griffins' design for Canberra and the location is a key element in that design.
