Mary River Area

Wild buffalo and two hundred and fifty species of bird, sharing the same wetlands

Mary River trades scenery for spectacle, and nowhere proves it better than Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve, where the dry season draws jabiru, jacana, brolga and ibis to feed among pink lotus lilies. Cruise the river for a chance at spotting wild water buffalo, descendants of animals introduced generations ago and now part of the wetland's character. The Window on the Wetlands Visitor Centre sits high above the floodplain, panoramic views from the deck outside. However you spend the day, the wildlife outnumbers the visitors easily.
