Flinders Island

This island's calmest coves hide some of the clearest water in Tasmania, granite boulders streaked orange with lichen visible straight through to the sand below a paddle. Kayaking here means gliding over reef and seagrass without ever needing to guess what's underneath, visibility rare even by Tasmanian standards. Wybalenna, at Settlement Point, holds a significant and difficult chapter of the island's history, worth learning properly before treating the coastline as simply scenic. Some places ask to be paddled slowly, and this is one of them.
