District Council of Karoonda East Murray

This district sits deep in mallee country, dryland farms spread wide across some of the quietest, least-visited parts of South Australia's east. Karoonda's Soil Pit Museum takes that farming identity underground, literally, a below-ground display revealing the soil layers and root systems most visitors never think to consider. The rest of the district carries on much as it always has, scrub and cropping paddocks stretching toward the Victorian border.
