Born here: the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and the first Qantas flight

Reverend John Flynn conceived the Royal Flying Doctor Service here in the 1920s, told at John Flynn Place Museum through the pedal radios that made it possible. The same year, the first Qantas passenger flight touched down here from Longreach, and the original hangar still stands as proof. Explorer Robert O'Hara Burke named the town on his way through, his drink bottle on display at the Cloncurry Unearthed Museum alongside the old Mary Kathleen uranium mine story. Copper still runs deep here, among the largest deposits in the country. Out here, a lot of firsts happened before anyone else was watching.
