An extraordinary exhibition of digital art by young Indigenous artists from remote Western Australia arrives at the Art Gallery of Swan Hill. Gulgawarnigu - Thinking of Someone. Something is a landmark exhibition of vibrant digital portraits and sweeping landscapes created by young artists from Ieramugadu/Roebourne, Western Australia. The works are striking and alive: bold portraiture and expansive landscapes made by young Roebourne artists who have found in digital tools a powerful new language for storytelling from Country. In these images, vibrant colour and deep cultural pride speak across distance, from the Pilbara to the Murray, reminding the community of what they share across regional Australia: a love of land, a pride in place, and a desire to be seen and heard. Developed through the Digital Lab in Roebourne in partnership with NEO-Learning and presented by Big hART — one of Australia's most acclaimed arts organisations working at the intersection of art and social change — the exhibition first debuted at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra and has since grown into a celebrated national touring project. Seeing this work in Swan Hill, in the heart of Murray River country, is both a privilege and a provocation, an invitation to look, to listen, and to connect.
