Fireflies Multilingual Storytelling Festival

For one special weekend in Wollongong, the world pauses at the feet of the storyteller. The city becomes a stage for some of the world's finest storytellers, inviting audiences to stop, listen, and be transported. This unique festival celebrates story, connection, culture, and language through performances by professional First Nations and multilingual storytellers from around the globe. While all stories are told in English, they are enriched with key words, lines, or songs in other languages, offering a vibrant expression of identity and heritage. Among the international guests are the dynamic Asian American duo ETH-NOH-TEC from California. Nancy Wang and Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo, master storytellers with over 30 years of experience, bring their signature blend of movement and narrative to the stage. From Hawaii, Alton Chung captivates with supernatural tales told with remarkable skill and presence. Local storyteller Jodi Edwards shares stories of Sea Kinn and culture, joined by other talented voices from across Australia. Audiences can choose to attend a single performance or experience all five shows, with tickets available through Merrigong Theatre Company. To complement the storytelling, a selection of meals from Balinese Spice Magic is available for pre-order and will be delivered during intermissions—nourishing both heart and body.
