Description
Mates Theatre Genesis brings Melanie Tait’s endearing comedy to the stage.
Based on a True Story. Penny Anderson, returns to her childhood country town of Appleton and discovers a disparity in prize money for the famous annual Potato Race - the men’s prize is five times more than the womens’ prize. Outraged, Penny campaigns to bring equality to the Appleton Show.
A "spudtacular" show, full of colourful characters, plenty of laughs and ingenuous surprises. Come and be entertained!

The play was originally developed and performed by the Ensemble Theatre in Sydney (2019). In 2023, it was staged by the Qld Theatre Company and adapted into a popular movie.
Mates Theatre Genesis (affectionately known as MATES) was established in 1990, and is the longest running community theatre group in the Redlands. MATES is run by volunteers and aims to nurture an inclusive performing arts community in the Redlands.
