Solstice in the Shadows

Come along to the Capricorn Caves to witness one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the Southern Hemisphere when the alignment of the sun along the Tropic of Capricorn lights up the Belfry Cave for you to experience. The longest day of the year marks the celebration of the Summer Solstice, and this year promises to be one not to be missed. During Summer Solstice the midday sun perfectly aligns with a natural opening in the cave ceiling, casting a powerful beam of sunlight into the depths of one of our caves allowing you to witness the enchanting play of light that occurs naturally only at Capricorn Caves. Guest presenter Dr John McGrath will wow guests with his incredible knowledge of the skies leaving them with an understanding of what the solstice is and how to experience it ‘underground’. Get a close up look at the sun through telescopes as it reaches its peak, then as the sunlight enters the caves below guests will be treated to an incredible light show. Solstice in the Shadows promises a one-of-a-kind experience for everyone. Please note - Being a natural phenomenon, there is no guaranteed viewing of the Solstice if it is raining or overcast . There will be a very informative tour all about the Summer Solstice.
